Review of Anne of Green Gables (Blackstone Audio)

Sometimes dreams do come true, even in the unremarkable life of an quirky orphan girl. Anyone who has ever wished for a better life can relate to this charming tale of a romantic heart dealing with all that comes her way.

L. M. Montgomery paints a very romantic picture in this work of quintessential idealism. It's about connecting with and awakening the human nature often suppressed by circumstance, society and maturation.

Go on luxurious trips into the world of unbridled imagination. Prepare to be charmed, disgusted, and brought to tears of both joy and sorrow as you follow the daily life and imaginations of Anne of Green Gables.

Anne's battles are small and many, it's mostly the ordinary stuff of life, but this girl makes it most extraordinary.

Audience

The main characters are all female and the subjects are those that would find there greatest appeal to all women and girls of of school age and above.  This middle aged male reviewer can certainly appreciate the classic beauty of the story but also recognizes that some boys would not be inclined to follow its feminine subject matter.(Reccomended for all adults and girls 8 years old and up.)
Narrator: The narration is clear, precise and not at all tiring to the ear. I listened to twenty chapters in one day without any feeling that I had heard too much of her voice.

Major Themes

Coming of age, natural world, rural Canada circa 1900, triumph of spirit over circumstance.

Production style

This audio book is presented as an unembellished one-person narration. A few over-dubbed corrections are of noticeably different audio character to the main reading. These are rare and of little consequence to the over-all quality of the production.
